Volunteer Recommendation

We recommend a two week trial period receiving responses to e-mail's from the committee members answering the e-mail. If you decide you want to join, you will have an additional 2-4 week online training period (depending on how ready you feel to start, if you need more time that is fine), which consists of reading the replies we send to the questions so you can see how we answer different kinds of questions and the tone to those questions. We'll be happy to answer any questions you may have about our responses. We have a frequently asked questions (FAQ) document that can be used to cut and paste responses to the inquiry. Some of us don't have access to e-mail on the weekends. They answer those e-mail the following Monday. You don't have to answer the e-mail's immediately but we strive to answer them within a couple of days. There is no "right" way to do this, but we have developed guidelines and most of those are simple and in the FAQ. Ask for HP's guidance or ours and let the words flow.

We will also copy you on Outreach Committee e-mail's so you can get a feel for the kinds of conversations and decisions we have and make.

There are a three important points to consider:

1. It is important that you are attending Coda meetings and working a program. It is difficult to give away what you have if you aren't working a CoDA program. We are the "customer service" of Co-Dependents Anonymous, Inc. so we need people who can communicate, have a relationship with HP and self (of course this covers a lot of territory as it is the God of your understanding), and will follow through. In addition, feedback from the CoDA Board indicated that it is a violation of the Traditions to accept help from someone who is not in CoDA.

2. We ask that you do not contact anyone who sends in e-mail to outreach@ or info@ while on the trial period. Only the person on rotation answers the e-mail. If other people have information to add, they forward it to the person on rotation and you are welcome to do that.

3. We operate on group conscious process and so we copy all members on discussions pertaining to Outreach. We've found that it keeps everyone in the loop and builds trust. If you think you would have a problem with that, then this service work may not be for you.
